It is I, Booker T. Frog.  I apologize that it has been so long between blog postings.  I am a fairly busy frog – lots of paperwork, and hey, those flies don’t just catch themselves.

I would like to share with you a little bit about how Park Street Books began.  Jim was a preschool teacher for about 12 years.  One of his favorite things to do is to share a love of reading with the little ones.  He loves reading stories with them and helping them to create their own stories.  Pre-school children have wonderful imaginations and they often have fresh ways of looking at the world around them as they discover and learn.  Starting a children’s bookstore in his hometown of Medfield seemed like a logical progression. 

Four years ago, Jim’s friends Jerry and Kathy told him that there was an open retail space below their offiice on Park Street.  The space needed a lot of work, but it was affordable.  Within a few months, the store opened.  Jim’s goals from the beginning were:  fill the store with educational toys and books, hire local teenagers to work at the store, give back to the community, support reading for all children, support local authors, and to create a resting place for weary pilgrims and traders to water their camels.  So far, he has accomplished most of his goals.  He has not yet created camel parking (camel zoning in this town can be difficult).

Thank you all for your support as the store has grown over the years.  We hope to open two more stores within the next couple of years.  We will probably name them “Frog Song Books”, but we, as always, are open to suggestions.

I was created by Medfield author David Biedrzycki (his name can be difficult to pronounce … think “Day vid”).  Jim asked David to create a bookstore logo.  David asked, “what would you like?”   Jim, bless his human heart, replied, “A frog reading a book.”  Just think, dear reader, that I could have been a dinosaur, a giraffe, or even a tree sloth.  David drew me up in a matter of minutes and put me into electronic form.  If you have never been put into electronic form, I can tell you it hurts.  It is a little bit like blowing your nose with a sandpaper tissue.  It leaves marks.  Jim loved me right away and a great friendship was born.

If you have ever been to the store, and I do encourage you to go, you have no doubt  seen my likeness adorning the front door.  I was painted on the door by Medfield artist Mary Noonan.  Mary is a friend of Jim’s.  She also painted the great animals on the double window in the bookstore’s second room.  Thank you Mary.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!
